Promoting the rights of foreign nationals

The task of the Non-Discrimination Ombudsman includes promoting the status and rights of foreign nationals. The Non-Discrimination Ombudsman also plays a special role according to the Finnish Aliens Act in complementing the legal protection of foreign nationals and monitoring the implementation of their rights.

The Ombudsman has the right to be heard in matters relating to individual asylum seekers or deportation of foreign nationals. The Ombudsman has the right to access a wide range of information relating to foreign nationals. The Ombudsman has access to the register of foreign nationals (register of aliens) and the right to be informed about all Finnish Immigration Service and Supreme Administrative Court decisions based on the Aliens Act.
